Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire arrived in Limay, Bataan, yesterday,July 31, to give an update on the health situation of residents following the recent oil spill in the area.

In a press briefing, Usec. Vergeire discussed the measures being taken by the DOH to ensure the health and safety of the residents in the affected community. She stated that the health department has already conducted groundwater testing to ensure the safety of drinking water. Additionally, she mentioned that the toxicology center at the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) is prepared to conduct tests should any individuals be affected by the oil spill. They are also ready to distribute medications if necessary. Meanwhile, based on evaluation results from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), seafood caught in the province is safe for consumption.

Vergeire also met with Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia at The Bunker, where she reported on the DOH’s findings. She assured the public that DOH is prepared to address any health needs that may arise due to the oil spill.

The press briefing in Limay was attended by LCDR Michael John Encina, Central Luzon Center for Health Development-Regional Director Corazon Flores, Limay Vice Mayor Richie David, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, Bataan PDDRMO Head Arvin Catipon, and officials from various agencies.
